where is it - on a foot poultice I always use the black silage tape you get from agricultural stores. or silver duct tape.

If u go on ebay and search for canvas hoof boot, they're really good. There are some latex hoof boots too. I gaffa tape over the top of these. :)

you need disposable nappies :) For my tb I use newborn size although maybe you'll have to go up a size if her feet are huge. Poultice as usual and then wrap the nappy over the hoof using the nappies tapes to secure it firmly. If she's really good at getting them off go over the top with some duct tape too. Works a treat :)

I currently am using bran mash, then thick white bread soaking in hot water then a nappy, then a bandage then a whole roll of vetwrap then duct tape over top which has been staying on lovely for last two weeks :(

Find yourself a tyre inner tube, if you don't have one try Kwikfit or any tyre place. Cut a big circle then a few slits from the outer edge as in as far as where the bottom of the hoof will be. Put normal poultice on (nappies are fab), an old sock will help hold the poultice in place then vet wrap over the top. Stand ned on rubber, bend the flappy bits up round hoof and stick down with duct tape. Works brilliantly for me. The rubber cut out can be reused and will last for ages, I have all shapes and sizes now :)

Oooo two weeks is a long, long time to be hot poulticing.

But to keep a poultice on:

Poultice, Gamgee pad, plastic bag, wrapped in vet wrap. Then a large, strong piece of canvas, well wrapped up round the foot and up the pastern with duck tape.

How is she getting it off? Wearing it through, treading out of it, or actually tearing it off? If either of the former, there are some good suggestions above. However, I had to buy a heavy duty, will withstand turn-out/very light in handwork boot for my youngster as she will literally chew a poultice apart with her teeth to get it off. The minute she's left alone, regardless of toys, occupation, in or out of the stable, she contorts herself into a knot and tears through the duct tape, silage tape, canvas, nappies, etc. I think I ended up with the Easyboot RX in the end. That foiled her!

Hot poulticing for more than a couple of days can really undermine the structures of the hoof - so this could be one reason the horse is still lame.

Hopefully you'll get some more answers tonight - but unless specifically instructed to do so by your vet, I would stop immediately - and move on to a dry one.

I know how frustrating that is! My boy would stand and bite his, I watched him try and pull his off! I used animalintex, nappy, vetwrap, duct tape then a poultice boot (which he hated, and shredded!!)

If she has been keeping it on with no problems for 2 weeks then I would question if she thinks she shouldn't have it on any longer, IME they know what they need and what is good for them and they know when it isn't. Have you had your farrier look at her foot, if not then that may be the way to go, they tend to be better than vets at feet.

When my mare had an abcess two summers ago I bought loads of Tesco black ladies trainer socks, put the Lintex on secured with duck tape, pulled sock over the hoof, changed twice a day, worked a treat but she is a cob so praps would be hard to find large enough socks for a Clydesdale!
