I have a problem as my boy has got fitter he has also got rounder, he is a very chunky New Forest. Although only 14.2, I am just over 5 foot with short legs not helped by the fact that my hips are decidedly iffy these days. I just cant seem to get my legs round him and find that to ask him to change pace I am bringing my legs back much too far just to be able to make contact. I cant seem to reach his sides if my legs are in the right position with my heels down. He is pretty responsive, but feel like Im flapping instead of giving definate aids as im not making contact. Its also putting me out of balance, which must be doing the same to him, and as hes still young I dont want to start him off on the wrong foot. Threatened to put myself on a rack to stretch my legs, but dont remember having this problem before in 50 years of riding, and have definately ridden bigger and wider. I feel like Im riding pony club style and Im sure it looks pretty amateurish. Anyone got any suggestions ? Oh and we have a lovely saddle which fits me and him perfectly, the saddle holds me in the right position, but them I have to move myself to get my leg on. All very frustrating
