We took our dog for a walk 2 days ago and at one point she came out of the hedge holding her back leg/back very strangely - almost out of position. She seemed to be walking on it fine though after I walked her up and down so I let her go again. It was only when we got back to the house that she started showing obvious signs of pain and scraping her back leg back (like after she has gone to the toilet) but with only this one leg. She was panting heavily and throwing herself down onto the floor and whining. After half an hour or so she seemed to calm down and lay down. She put more consistent weight on it but when we took her to the car she still hobbled on that leg a bit. Since then, the leg still doesn't seem perfect when walking (but perhaps this is just because I know she hurt herself, because she is fully weight bearing on it and is still jumping around) but she is fine if I extend the leg or apply pressure and there is no heat as far as I can feel. I looked up luxating patella but I didn't know if this would be a likely cause? She is a medium sized lab/collie cross. It says it can be caused by trauma so I wondered if she had perhaps landed strange when she was leaping around on the walk and this had caused it to dislocate? It also mentions the sudden pain and then they appear normal again. She will probably visit the vet as soon as the bank holiday is over, I just wondered if anyone could help because I know lots of people have experience of it.
