An old Mounted police trick odd as it sound it DOES WORK
Has to start 7 days before you begin to practice you give pony 1/2 bread with black treacle on. next day the same then 11/2 until said pony is having 2 slices of bread with treacle. It can be an aquired taste but it grows on them, till they will do anything for it

then the day before you plan to load do not give any at all

Following day use it as reward for loading. If however pony is happy to stand on the ramp DO NOT reward him for this, only what he doesn't normally do

Have a spare leadrope already tied in your horsebox/trailer so that as soon as you get him in there you can quickly clip it to his headcollar hence then he can't go backwards. Also as soon as he does stand and go in there get into the habit of rewarding him every single time with an apple or carrot/treat etc, he'll soon get the idea- it's not easy trying to deal with a bad loader on your own though! gd luck.

I had a similar problem with my horse. It's worth getting a Kelly Marks Recommended Associate out to give you a hand, think I paid £30 for an hour and it was well worth it.

If you look on the Intelligent Horsemanship website, you should be able to find your local RAs. Before anyone panics about tree hugging, I found the IH people to be very pragmatic and not at all cult-like, unlike parelli types

Friend used to attach a lunge line to the headcollar, pass it over the breast bar and pull. Her horse loaded ok but would fly out before she could get the ramp up but with this, you can keep it taught from behind the horse (obviously to the side just in case) whilst you get the ramp up.
Saying that my horse flew out so fast and violently I wouldnt have fancied my chances with the lunge line trick.

I have had a recommended associate out to my horse and she was brilliant really down to earth, explained everything and loaded the horse . Well worth the money

My old gelding Merlin wouldn't load into a trailer, so got OH to build side gates(can be done)Long lunge line from headcoller to hay ring through jockey door so I stood beside him, gentle pressure on rope no tugging,he couldn't go backwards had to forward gentlely reeled him in and then put the ramp up behind him. worked everytime less stress for me and him.
