So i have just started an Extended project Qualification to go along with my a levels..it entails a 600 word dissertation on absolutely anything we want and we can come up with our own question for the title....unsurprisingly i've gone down the horsey route...

The basis of my epq is equine breeding, if the numbers of horses bred affect the number of welfare cases etc. and if there is need for tighter regulations....(all somehow squeezed in to a concise and eye-catching/witty title)

i need to gather a lot of research..... so please if you can give me any links to rare breed societies, breeding statistics, interviews with equine welfare groups (preferably with comments on breeding) in fact anything that is even the very slightest relevant and anything that could throw up any facts/opinions etc.............?

i mean absolutely anything

apple and blackberry pie + my eternal gratitude to anybody with any information :)

I'm not really much help but are you sure the limit is 600 words? I'm doing an EPQ on lameness in cattle and the limit is about 5000! Hence why it's called an extended essay. :)

My son is doing an EPQ - I think they are a great idea, but you really need to do your own research. I'm sure if you google the phrases in your post that will be a good starting point. Once you've got the bare bones, I'm sure it would be perfectly acceptable to ask questions/opinions about specific facts/topics. Good luck. :)

Mine was 5000 words too (well it was meant to be- ended up 7000!) it was injuries most commonly sustained during hunting and the treatments. Start by gathering loads of information, however loosely linked as you will find it much easier if you know lots about the subject. Try to use a wide range of sources too, get books in the library even if you only use a sentence from them you can still reference them! There are lots of websites im sure -and you can get journals online too which makes life much easier when trying to get a wide range of sources.

My problem is finding sources other the internet! Luckily I'm in London so I might be able to pop over to the Royal Vet College's library in Camden.

I'm a teacher who verifies EPQ work just be careful as your reader is likely to be uninformed therefore you need to be very careful to present the data as accurately and simply as possible. It's great that it gives wide remit in terms of final of content but be wary of making it too specialist in its content if that makes sense. Write as if the marker has no equine knowledge and you'll be fine. Good luck

i am doing research outside of H&H...however i am not very good at navigating/using the web and thought this would be using my initiative....i wasn't expecting people t do my research for me just curious if anybody knew of some interesting articles or web adresses :)

A really good place to find initial resources is Google Scholar. It is providing me with lots to get started with with my uni dissertation!

If you mind map what factors you need to research, with a really open scope of what could be a contributing factor. So, looking at who breeds, what types of breeds are more likely to be a neglect case, who breeds these types, is it large scale projects or independently bred horses who are more likely to be neglect cases... Etc etc etc!

Ooh yes Google Scholar is fab, I should have mentioned it, although there are a lot of things that look great and have a title related to your project but you have to pay to view them :(
