Hello!!

Had my horse for just over a month now and just wondering a few things, i got a new saddle for her a couple of days ago, its fitted with 'care' and a changeable gullet systems, rode her yesterday and she was good apart from the odd little excitable buck but riding today was really fresh! Just wanted to cantercantercanter! the odd little buck when she wasn't getting her own way but nothing bad and spook whenever she say anything near the bushes! Just as the saddle is new and im worried it could be that making her uncomfortable? Spoke to the saddle fitter and the earliest i can get it checked/ changed is not for two weeks. Should i continue to ride her for the next few days until the saddle fitter comes and just hope she's just a bit full of beans as she's had a few days off??

Thanks :)

ahh woops! haha! yes he did but said that if anything changes within the next few weeks to let him know, so called him today after she was acting out a little. But just wanting to know what other people would do in a similar situation. I still have her old saddle, so if over the next few days she's still the same then i will switch back for the time being! I think its just me being a paranoid since she is still so new! Does anyone else have any experiences with cair saddles??

By your post, it sounds to me as if she's just being cheeky / excitable, especially with the few days off, she could just be feeling a bit full of herself. But as I don't know her character & haven't seen her behaviour then it's tricky to say! You could try lunging her before riding to wear her out a bit and see if she's any different?

Is she okay to have the saddle put on & the girth tightened? Not showing any tension or putting her ears back? Does she object to you getting on when she hasn't previously?
Technically if your saddler fitted it correctly and watched her going in it then it shouldn't really be causing any problems so soon.

nope nothing out of the ordinary! Yep that's what i'm hoping, will give her a good exercise and maybe a hack afterwards tomorrow (if the weather holds up) to get it all out her system and then go from there. If she is still a bit off in a few weeks then the saddler can always come back and check! I think i'm just a paranoid new owner wanting everything to be perfect for the little monster! Its amazing how quickly they can change shape, only had her just over a month and she has changed so much! Thanks for your help :)

If her behaviour has changed since you started to use the new saddle, then it seems logical that the saddle is the cause of the behaviour. I realise that it is difficult for you to judge as you have only had her a short time.
I'd put her back into the old saddle, then try the new saddle again. See if there's any difference in her behaviour in the two saddles. 'Cair' doesn't suit all horses as it can be quite firm.

ETA, just read that she has changed shape in the month that you've had her - there I would say is your answer.

yep that's why i got the saddler out to check last week and he recommended the one I'm using now. If the weather is good tomorrow i will try riding her in both saddles and see if i notice a difference. After a bit of Google research i see that as you say some horses don't like cair, if so saddler said at the time that if i/or my horse don't like it I can try another so will see how it goes :) Thanks
