so we have done lots of work with this mare, as I reported in my previous threads, She is now accepting my leg and a contact. canter is established on the lunge on command but I still cant get her to canter under saddle. We tried again today and as soon as i ask, she launches straight into a massive trot, throwing me forward.
Does anyone have any ideas I could try to get her to canter under saddle please, I live on the Romney Marsh and we don't have any hills use.

thanks

Thanks for your reply, no not yet we are going to introduce a pole this week. She was raced in her previous home, so was told off when she cantered so we have been working on telling her it's ok to canter, but under saddle she just trots quicker and faster

Have you tried asking for canter on the lunge with a rider on board? This might get her used to cantering with a rider and then progress off the lunge, and as the other poster suggested - ask over a pole, should help her.

That was my next suggestion

Thank you for your advise i shall be taking the advise to my instructor in the week and we will give both a try. Thinking the lunge idea, is very good and may try that before the pole. again thanks very much
