Hey guys..

I need some help coming up with a name for a new horse I'm picking up later today. Unfortunately the name she's coming with I can't keep (a relative's name).

Here's the details... the mare is a black bay, she's a thick stout little horse about 14.1 or 14.2. Quarter horse cross. Personality has been described as sweet but can be cranky (she's a mare).

I would love to find a name that has something to do with the name Fancy, but not too obviously related. I'm drawing a blank and google just isn't helping me today. Fancy was my heart horse that I lost to colic (she wasn't a candidate for surgery unfortunately after being travelled all the way to the vet university 8 hours away) last year. She was such a sweet and special horse, spirited and quick but loving and kind. I miss her so much, and was not looking for another horse right now as I have several others on the farm, but when I saw the photo of this new mare my breath just caught in my throat. She has the same expression and body language as my old mare. I know they are not the same, but something is just telling me I need to go get her, so I am.

Anyone have any ideas for a name that could work?

Sorry I have cakes on the brain... my first thought was 'Fondant' but that's not the greatest name so I thought of 'Kipling' but I think that would work better for a gelding. Then I remembered that Fondant Fancies can be called French Fancies, so how about 'Frenchie'? People will probably think that you are a Grease fan though. ;)

One dictionary I looked at had Spiffy as a synonym for fancy. I really like it.

It means smart, stylish, attractive, pleasing

Well.. some not so good news.

I arrived (with trailer in tow) to collect the mare, and walked up to find a ... pony. Not a 14.2 HH hony like I expected. My immediate reaction was... "that is not a 14 hand horse... " the lady argued with me and said she's almost 15 HH! I told her that she absolutely was NOT 15 HH, that I didn't even think she was 13 hands.

Lady wanted me to ride her and try her out, I am too big for this pony. She started to get snippy and negative so I offered to measure her with the tape I keep in my trailer. Pony measures at 12.3 HH, but she tried to measure herself and kept saying "She's 13 hands!". *eyeroll*. Lady was flabbergasted but apologized and said the people she got her from told her she was 14.2HH and she never measured her. I have NO idea how anyone with any knowledge of horses could mistake a PONY this size for a 14 anything horse.

To make matters worse, she immediately changed the ad for the pony and it now reads "PONY mare for sale. Measures 13.2... MAYBE even 14 hands."

Clearly she is quite simply a liar. I cannot even with people like this. Thanks for wasting my time and gas lady. I didn't actually need another horse, so it's not like I'm really missing out. Also, pony was terrified and jumpy and not well handled. And wearing a PONY halter haha. You cannot make this stuff up!
