I'm concerned that the fit of my mare's saddle is not quite right and would like a bit of advice.

She's new to me and came with a saddle which had been fitted to her sometime in the last six months. She is only 4 so we are expecting her shape to change a lot. When we got her she had dropped weight over winter and was beginning to put it back on, since we've had her she's been in more work and is starting to build a bit of muscle.

Last night when oh was riding her I noticed that she wasn't tracking up with one hind. It was intermittent and only in walk not in trot. She trotted up sound in hand.

Last night I looked over her closely as she kept going intermittently short behind, could find nothing wrong but spotted that the saddle was sitting very low over her back and I am now concerned that the saddle is causing some discomfort that is caused this shortness.

Oh weighs considerably more than the previous owner so could be exacerbating any small problem.

So I am obviously going to get her back and saddle checked (hoping the saddle can be adjusted) any recommendations welcome. But in the meantime, what would people recommend, I am keen to keep her working would a riser pad help? or a gel pad or poly pad? any tips on checking the saddle myself?

Thanks

As you have spotted it is low it suggests the saddle needs checking asap. Personally I would lunge until it is checked especially as there is a problem with her way of going now. If the saddler thinks the fit is ok then I would have a vet out to have a look at her. These things are always very worrying so I hope it is sorted out soon for you.
