I have never done any dressage in my life and have always been a happy hacker, only ever really used a school to potter around in because Ive never had a horse who liked schooling.

However my new horse knows his stuff in the school and Im hoping he can teach me a thing or two, he knows it all, its just me who doesnt.

I know he can do half pass, shoulder in and halt to canter transitions.

Can some clever person please explain to me in simple terms how to 'ask' for each of these?

Thank you!

hmmm maybe ask an instructor to show you....
Establish the basics first, make sure he's straight and off the aids. Shoulder in- think of riding the start of a circle but then hold with the outside rein with the inside leg on to continue down the long side. Dont ask for too much to start with and be careful not to just get neck bend. The inside hand should be allowing and shouldnt pull the head around.
The others are hard to explain on paper!
