Hi , I have a 6 year old (Irish Sports horse)
although he is 6 , he was broken start of this year , he came form ireland so he was hunted then shiped over , i have had him since March . He was in light work untill we turned away for 3 and a half weeks away form work as we where starting to have a bit of trouble, since bringing him back i cant fault him in away way :)

However , I have a 13.3h pony aswell which I ride daily along with romeo (6 year old) , and have never really schooled ,jumped ,ect. horses so am a bit lost . I was wondering wherever anyone had any good schooling exersizes or tips as he is very unbalance sometimes , he doesnt like going on the inside bend and is very hard to hold togthere for me as he is 16.3 and i'm not very tall , but i can do it when i put my mind to it , i've started lots of work with his transitons and was looking for some other ideas .

thanks x :)

When i started schooling my 6 yo she was very unbalanced (especially when turning), but i started lunging her for a few times a week and she has improved loads.

can you not get a few lessons to help?

If not lots of transitions, circles (keep them true circles) squares, serpentines etc etc

You say you have not schooled before so presume you have hacked, some that hack still know an awful lot but others don't so sorry if I you do know the following

but do you know about correct aids for turning, half halts etc. inside leg to outside hand etc? If not you really can't expect to school a horse without help

yeah i'm aranging some lessons for in the next few weeks ,
and yeah trabsitons hae done him wonders as he was ery lazy so harder to work as was constaly asking for the forward motion , and i haent tried squares yet so might tell that :) thanks
and yes i've schooled loads of ponies and reschooled mine seral times , i'm just finding it different schooling a horse as when i ride naturaly and are focusing on something like a circle i kind of fall into riding him better than if i was focusing on sitting up straight or shifting my wieght :) thankss x

Find your self a decent instructor and get the basics right - good strong foundations will make everything easier in the long run.

Your instructor/ trainer will be able to explain how you ride correctly, different movements, turns, circles, explain contact, weight aids, supporting aids, half halts, etc and how to lunge correctly with the correct equipment to gain the best results.

It will be money SO well spent, and you will throughly enjoy the whole learning experiance as there is a whole new world of information out there for you.

Have major fun ! x
