help with skin please?

Blacky's a bit sore at the moment because of her skin problem.
she's got quite a big cut just beside her eye and we don't know how she did that but it could be rubbing on wire or something?:

and on her legs she gets really itchy in the wet and mud (she might have slight mud fever but we don't think so) and coz of her skin condition. so she stamps her feet but actually rubs her feet against her other leg so on both legs she's grazed the insides and they're really sore

then... she was tied up for feeding and she was nodding her head up and down so her lead rope rubbed on her chest (quite clever really but we don't want her to do it!) and she rubbed it so much it started to bleed:

anyone know anything we can use to stop her itching?
 
A good bath with Dermoline Medicated shampoo for a start then I'd be using Frontline on her legs, those should help with the itching. I'm sure someone will come up with better suggestions though. Protocon cream will help with her sores and it's antibacterial too but she might need a boost with her diet so make sure she's getting enough vits and minerals with a decent supplement.
 
Angel started stamping her feet at the onset of mudfever (her skin was pink and sore but no scabs yet!!) . Alternatively, it could be lice - more predominant in feathered horse (check to see if you can see any - you can buy louse powder from tackshops) If the start of mud fever - I would clean her legs using a medicated shampoo or hibiscrub then dry them using a towel (I find thermatex leg wraps great for this) - then use a barrier cream or Keratex powder.

Have you tried any supplements like itch free ?

Is she clipped ?? I have a very itchy horse and I have tried everything. He has even had skin swabs taken by the vet but at the end of the day, he simply appears to have sensitive skin. I have not clipped him this year and he is not as itchy.

If her skin is very dry - sometimes coconut oil helps (very cheap from Boots - but you do need to melt it a little)

I have also used NAF D-Itch lotion with some success.

Bathing helps a lot but if she has a thick coat, she may catch a chill. You could use warm water and rug her up afterwards if she is clipped ???

I have researched diets too and it appears that certain mixes can make my gelding itch. He was on vet mix but he seems less itchy if I don't feed that.

Finally if very sore, your vet may have to prescribe a steroid cream for her. Camrosa is supposed to great too altho I have not tried it.

You just need to keep trying different things until you find something which works.

sounds like it could be lice or mites. Probably mites on her legs..frontline and or a lice powder should help. What is her skin condition BTW?..
 
Aloa vera juice!!! My dog has a skin condition and my horse has skin problems also,since them both being on it they've had no more probs! I get my from Equus Health but you can get a bottle from H&B for £4.99,get an unflavoured one though if poss.
