I know I should get a saddler out too fit properly and I will in the future but as a stop gap can anyone advise on this please?

Pony is 14.3hh and Connemara x type fairly flat wither and fairly wide but neither overly so id say (in comparison to a proper coloured cob type)
He currently has a Thorowgood Pony club T4 saddle 16.5" with a wide gullet bar.
I had a saddler check the fit recently and she commented that it was too tight on his shoulder but had the correct bar in it. If we put a wider bar in its sitting way too low on his wither but still too tight on the shoulder. Its also not the comfiest for me too ride in and im now his rider I'd rather a 17" (saddler said that would be ok for him)

If I go for a Thorowgood T4 but not the pony club model- a regular 17" seat im wondering if I may need the cob instead of the regular on account of the PC one being too tight what ever bar. Can anyone help me out here at all please?
When/If he's up and running properly he will have a better quality leather saddle correctly fitted but its money I cant afford to risk on him right now!

I have the Thorowgood cob saddle for my rotund, no withers NFx. She has quite large shoulders which this saddle clears nicely unlike a Wintec one which I owned previously.

Does the pony club model have s bar or r bar gullets? I just wonder if it has s bar as it has a square cantle, which would make it the same as the cob saddle, only in a smaller seat size, therefore the fit would be similar? I MIght be wrong though.

I have a wide cob with big shoulders and she is in a thorowgood regular GP with the red bar and it fits just fine. Had the cob version but hated it as did she, was so uncomfortable!

That's interesting as I have the cob version at the moment and not really getting along with it. Saddler is back out in a week or so and I am now wondering if the regular version would be better. He is not massively wide anymore (after losing weight) and does have some wither.

Ummm, now your asking! Im pretty certain its an S bar but id thought they were smaller than a regular cob saddle? (as I shorter) I also have a high wither and that's long R bars.
Ive decided I think to try a regular but with a wider bar and see how that sits.
I borrowed a T4 cob and tried that on this morning. Its too low on his wither and just seems the wrong shape for him- I also out of interest and because it was in my car tried my high wither model on and oddly it looked better than the Cob The wither clearance was too much obviously but in general it was a better all round fit.

Plan?

Sorry, can't help with the fitting width wise but the standard GP model comes up huge lengthwise compared to the pony club and cob models, so you may find that a 17" standard GP is too long? Just noticed that Thorowgood have started making a compact version of the GP with a shorter tree, presumably to tackle this problem...it's on their website as a T8 at the moment but I'm sure I've seen a T4 version for sale too.

ETA: Just realised you have the high wither version too so I guess you know that already!
