I have just had 250Kg, big rectangular bales of haylage delivered but never used it before.
The bales are currently standing up on end.
Should I open each bale like this or lie the bale down before opening?
i.e. When taking the haylage off for stuffing into nets does it unwind like big bale hay or come off the end in chunks?
I've been told to take off most of the wrapping and just loose wrap once open, I just need to know how best to position the bale to make stuffing into nets easiest.
Any suggestions welcome!

I have retangular bales-I lie them down on the biggest side and open one end. It will come out in slices like in a small retangular haybales.

Hope this helps, it's quite hard to describe!

Depends on the weather ref opening. Mine is under cover anyway but I cut a flap in the end which I then pin down with a knife so it doesn't expand everywhere! During the winter a bale will last my two a fortnight like this and keeps well with very little mess or waste. Once it gets a bit milder I unwrap the whole thing so it dries out a bit like hay and doesn't go off.

As for filling nets (a job I hate) I put the nets inside an empty dustbin woth the open end over the edge if that makes sense. I then fold the slice in half and stuff it in which is a bit of a squeeze but much easier than using round bale hay/haylage.
