Can I get your opinions on the below text as a potential wanted ad please.

I’ve had a horse on part loan for almost a year now. I share him with a riding school and basically I want to spend more time with him than is available, and get out competing more – his lessons always clash with this! … So I’d like to look for a horse to loan (possibly with a view to buy). Although I do a fair amount for the horse I have at the moment this would be the first horse I’d have under my care completely. I am surrounded by very experienced and knowledgeable friends who will help me if needed, and have taken the 1st BHS Horse Owner’s Certificate.

If the horse was taken with the possibility to buy, my budget would probably be around £3k tops. Should I put this in the ad? This isn’t likely to happen until the New Year, but when I get an idea in my head I like to start planning immediately… what do you think??? Also is ‘intermediate rider’ a funny term? I’m not a novice, but also I wouldn't want anything REALLY strong or naughty.
Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Loan Horse Wanted 15.2/15.3.
Wanted by intermediate rider for hacking, schooling, RC and local level SJ..

To be kept at vg yard in XXX, Northamptonshire on DIY livery. Must be good to catch, shoe, travel etc.
Looking for a friendly horse who likes to be spoilt and enjoys fuss, likes an occasional blast out hacking, but also has brakes.
Forward going but sensible horse that enjoys jumping a must, will dabble in beginners dressage and who could happily take me over my first XC jumps.

I think that sounds good, I'd call you if my horse was suitable. I'd also mention possible view to buy, as that might get you a different group of people. Also I'd mention if yard is BHS approved?

I would also call if my horse was suitable. Alternatively you could put 'very experienced rider' instead, although I think intermediate is suitable. I would take that term as someone who has the knowledge to school a horse well, do lateral work, jump around the 3ft mark, hacked, and possible done a bit of competing in the past.

I would also add 'May also be interested in loan with view to buy'. If you put a price then people may be put off, like if they have a really nice 10k horse they may not ring you, or they may have one they think is about 1k but it could be a really good horse but they may think its not what your looking for as its too cheap, if you get what I mean.

Just a thought- I would probably leave out the words "occassional blast out hacking" or rephrase it so it doesn't sound like you intend to wrecklessly gallop around (which i'm sure you don't!) it just sounds a bit carefree- i.e there a plenty of people out there that only get to ride at weekends and then want to go on a mad gallop on an unfit horse and cause injury, which i am sure potential loaners would want to steer clear of! I don't believe this is your intention at all just it might be interpreted this way.

How about firstly shareing a horse and get more hands on stable management under your belt before buying/loaning your own?

Thats what I did and learnt a lot.

thanks for the reply Owlie, but I already do just that. i am involved in the care of the horse I share so have a good amount of knowledge and hands on experience, plus the back up of others who are very experienced. I'm confident that I would be able to look after a horse well
