Help! Wolesey harrier clippers..

Ok so long story short, clipped my mare today using myOH's mums clippers (she's used them once about 3 years ago on her TB).. So there basically brand new.

Just finished clipping gem - took everything off- was just taking her fetlocks off when they started making a funny noise. Basically the motor was still going (higher pitched noise) but the blades had stopped moving- the clippers weren't vibrating like they usually do..

We cleaned them out completely but they still wouldnt work properly. Then after a lot of cleaning out (was spot leas inside and out) the blades started moving a little bit, we'd switch them off and then as they were stopping the blades stopped again, motor went high pitched and when turned on again the blades wouldn't work!

We're panicIng as we're worried we've broken them and she's only used them once! Now, I've heard they have a cut out motor if they get to hot, do you think that's what there doing?

Were the blades hot and did you oil them?
As long as the motor is still working there is hope!, servicing may be required!
Are they the kind with a screw thing on them, or clip on blades, do you have the instructions, if so now is the time to read them!
what kind an d model are they, my Moser Wahl won't cope with thick hair

Were you oiling them as you went along? How tight did you do up the tensioning bolt?

I'd say the obvious answer is that either there wasn't enough oil or the blades were too tight but if not I don't know!
 
Oiling them every 5/10 mins, the blades wernt overly hot but not cool... They were ok for about 1 hour 20 mins that's when they went:(.. So I don't no about the tightness of the blades if I'm honest.. My oh said he tightened them up and they stopped working really quickly... :(
 
They have a screw on bolt, dont just clip in! Um if you google wolseley harrier clippers they'll come up... There the heavy duty ones and she's only got a TB coat.. Hardly fluffy really just had to get rid of what fluff she was getting..
 
I have been clipping my cobs, thick leg hair and hogging them for 30 years with Wolseley clippers. My old set lasted 28 years. In all that time I never had this happen.

If they cut out because they are too hot the motor will stop. And it needs to get very very hot before that would happen. I doubt your horse would tolerate blades that hot without letting you know.

Try running them without the blades, does the wheel which drives the blades go round. If its working normally then you probably havent fitted the blades correctly or tensioned them wrong.
 
I've just said this on another thread but will tell you too, there is a lovely user called The Engineer who services clippers. I don't know how much he/she is online but if you PM I'm sure they'd get back to you eventually and they're very helpful. They might be able to help more than me :)
 
Rockysmum- my oh said the wheal is turning when run without them, there is no manual book with them.. So how do we fit/tension them correctly? Would it be that even though they'd been working properly for like 1h 20m before? I suppose they could have moved when we turned them off and on whilst oiling...
 
sounds like your gears have gone. you will need to send them away for service and repair!! sorry not the answer you want, but yes i think they are broken. nothing to do with tension of blades/ lack of oil.
 
Oh bloody hell. We did wander if this was what the problem was:/.. Can't believe it, typically has to happen on my horse and not one of there own!! Feel so guilty but I used them exactly how they said too!
