I've noticed a very small wart type thing on my yearlings neck. Its a bit smaller than id say the rubber on the end of a pencil. does anyone have any experience of this? I've read horror stories about cancerous ones..... any experiences out there on how to treat it?!

sounds like it could be a sarcoid...get your vet to check it and if it is one they should be able to burn it off with liverpool cream if you want to- but if its small and not bothering him i'd personally just keep an eyeon it and see if it changes- my youngster has a sarcoid and its actually getting smaller.....

i think (and don't panic!) that sarcoids are a form of cancer but are very mild and rarely cause problems unless in an area such as the girth. TBH i don't know much about them except what they tend to look like and know that most people either get liverpool cream to treat them or get vet to cut them out. i was advised to leave youngster's as they said it might disappear once his immune system improved with age....

our boy has 2 wart like sarcoids on sheath, few weeks back one of them burst, had vet out and he took pics for when I want them treated. He said to leave alone for now unless it changes in size.

Sorry if this is a stupid answer, but two of our horses came in with ticks on them today, tiny little black beasties, could this 'black wart' be a tick?

Some lumps that look like sarcoids are just warts. Warts are common in young horses that haven't yet built up an immunity. I'd keep an eye on it but if in any doubt your vet can take a careful scraping and send it off to the lab for analysis. I wouldn't put anything on it just in case because some creams and gels actively encourage new skin cell growth and in the unlikely event that it is a sarcoid (a skin cancer) the last thing you want to do is encourage it to grow.
