Not sure if any of you remeber my post the other week about my horse going over backwards with a sore back!! Well to continue the story the chiropractor came back out and found something else wrong and that seemed to fix the problem. He was working ok with a few funny moments and thinking about it he felt funny occasionally but (just to confuse me) last week I had a lesson and he was the best ever, but since then he has not been very happy to go into a contact and the last couple of days in canter he has been putting his head up and twisting his neck, and almost going over on himself again not sure what to do - Had saddle checked last week and saddler said it was perfect.
Do I:
Call the chiropractor back agian
Get another back person to look (any names in northamptonshire, beds gratefully recieved)
Call the vet- But not sure what they can do???
Really worried about him
Thanks if you have got this far

I would get a second opinion about the saddle and the back. Not saying that your current saddler or chiropracter isn't good but a second opinion may find something that previous people have missed. Have you had his teeth checked?

Teeth done 2 weeks ago, I know the saddle is fine, but may borrow a pad to go underneith, its the chiropractor im worried about she has treated him many times before and he has never had a reaction like this!!!

Sounds like the chiropractor isn't getting you any results. I would definately get a second opinion if after the chiropractor has been the horse is worse!

I would go very easy on him. I know from having a bad back myself that a chiro visit does not wave a magic wand. If you have a bad back, horsey or human, it can be a long road to recovery. The chiro manipulates it, cracks everything in to alignment however, the ligaments and muscles are not an instant fix. You have to concerntrate on posture and alignment and re habilitate the muscles, allow the ligaments to recover. You can't tell a horse not to rick itself up again. Even something as simple as rolling or galloping up to a fence and putting their head up can undo everything the chiro has done.... little b*ggers!

As far as horses go, I find that carrot stretches, tail pulls, leg stretches and long reining really help. Yoga for horses! Avoid lunging and working on tight circles. You need to get the horse moving forward and carry himself well but asking them to come down on the bit or work in an outline is something to build up to.

The chiro I use for my horses always leaves very detailed instructions for re-habilitation, ie, daily stretchs & exercises. Sometimes many chiro visits are needed.

Ned is definitely trying to tell you something and I think trying to be as polite about it as he can. I'd suggest pretending you were from outer space and reviewing the whole big picture. What's happened recently in ned's life? Change in diet, had a fall, new field mates, new work, lost a companion, new farrier, other health probs, new stable, new view, sheep next door, new hay supplier, new instructor, competition coming up so mum changed, you have something different in YOUR life, can't get up to see him as much, or more riding? Absolutely anything that might be different. It might be a tiny thing from your point of view but huge from his. You might need to be a bit of a Sherlock Holmes to get to the bottom of it.

Sorry to ask you to go over what you may have stated in your other post a few weeks ago I think I missed it.

How old is your horse?

Why do you say he went over backwards with a sore back?

use a ostepath they are not as invassive on your horse ostepaths supple the muscles so if there is any thing out of place it will go in comfortable circo pushes it back in to place witch could leave him uncomfortable!
