i need to get my horse to loose weight but i dont know what else to do. He goes out at 7.30am on to a strip grazing paddock and comes in at 5pm with 4kgs of 24 hr soaked hay. He gats a handfull of hi fi lite to get his supps into him witch are hawthrone nettle garlic and naf slim line. His excersice is 20 mins of lunging 4 times a week and 1 day he goes for a walk in hand and every now and then i long rein him. Ican not ride due to awaitin an operation and there is no other person to ride him either. I did try a muzzle but he became very stressed and dangerous. Any ideas welcomed thanks!x

Change the strip grazing to a racetrack system, it really is a great way to reduce weight.

L_D - what's the 'racetrack system'.

I have a vision of the poor little neds being put on a racetrack in front of the racing herd and getting its exercise that way

Racetrack is where you make a path all the way round or even zig zag with water at one end, so they have to exercise and it cuts down on the amount they get to eat!!

A conventional racetrack is where they race horses!!!

Thanks f-s, that is it exactly. I use a track around the field edge, really works well for my chunky dunky

any more ideas ?i do put his water bucket at the far end of the fielf and he is at the top half so if he wants a drink he has to walk all the way down there to get it and then all the way back up tp where the strip grazing fence is!
