Hiya all, my cocker spaniel has been having a problem with incontinence it would seem, she has started weeing in the house which she never does, even when she's just come in from the garden. My dad noticed that she has some blood in her urine. It cannot be a Pyometra as she had one which funnily enough, Cayla alerted me to and we managed to get her to the vet just in time as it could have killed her.

She is totally normal in herself other than this. She does have a vet appointment but not til Monday. My first thought was that she had a wee infection but I don't know. If it is a urine infection, is this easily treated? I assume she would be given antibiotics?

Any advice would be fab.

I'd pop her to the vets this afternoon - if it is a urine infection it's usually easily treated. And if something more sinister, will be picked up earlier.

As someone who had to blast their poor dog with antibiotics for months because of an aggressive UTI which he was too stoic to let me know he had (I only ended up realising because it was snowing :o) I would advise the vets as soon as you can, it is so much more easily treated in the early stages.

She sounds like having cystitus,a course of Noraclav or similar will soon set her straight, but don`t dally,it is painful and can lead on to kidney infection as well.
Strangely I was once told that giving tomato juice is a preventitive by a vet,so mine get this sometimes as a treat.
Cystitus is more common in spayed girlies.

***UPDATE***

The dog went to the vets yesterday and as suspected, has a urine infection. An injection and antibiotics prescribed so hopefully it will clear up soon. Thanks for the help everyone. x x

Good news. Didn't mean to panic you but like EK said, it can escalate, B's went right back into his bladder and it was a whole palaver getting it sorted, I thought he was dying of cancer!!!

That's ok CC, I appreciate the honesty etc as I understand how small things can start and turn into something sinister. She's much, much better now and has completely stopped weeing in the house so she's back to her normal self. :) x x
