Hi Im new here and ive been thinking recently what to do. I'm a 21 yr old Girl and have had a lot of experiance with horses. I'd love to become a farrier but i got told once that its really hard to get into if ur a girl! is this true and has anyone got any advice for me on how to getin to this career??

Thank you

All I would say is our farrier has an apprentice who is a girl and she always says she would think twice about it if she were to start over.

There's a lot of training involved but the money is good at the end if you do well.

I think there's probably a careers website with more information. Good luck with whatever you choose.

hiya i want to be a female farrier too but i`m 15 so will doing the farriers access course at my local college in september.

the apprentship lasts for 4 years 2 months which is a long time but you do get paid and it will be worth it in the end.

you need to find an ATF (approved training farrier) who can take u on as an apprentis (spelling??) as normal farriers cannot do this.

you need a forging certificate which i will get at college but as you are older i dont know how you will get it.

PM if you want to ask any more questions although the best people to PM would be loobie_loo who is on the farrier access course at the mo or 6410 as he is doing an apprentship at the moment as well (although i think he has left the forum or something).

i also found this website really helpful

http://www.farrier-reg.gov.uk/

hope this helps a bit
