Hi All,
I have a problem with my mare Chelsea whom I have on full loan. She is 9 years old t.b x welsh cob. I have had her just over a year now and we are on our fourth bout of lameness in the near side fore leg. She was first diagnosed last year with a strained fetlock and I followed vets advice and she was sound for a few months then lameness re-occured. This was again diagnosed as fetlock sprain with support boots advised and possible weakness. (Both boutS followed a jumping session of under 2'6) It happened again after a simple hack and I did not seeks vets advice as I assumed (wrongly I admit) it was the same thing. So now we are here again after jumping the day before and I have agreed to take her to vets for nerve blocking and x-rays. I am concerned tho as she has no heat or swelling and on flexion tests performed by vet she is no worse....does any one have an idea of what it could be. I hasten to add that it is not just jumping that can bring the lameness on, it has occured after a simple hack also. We have competed in between at low level, no bigger than 2'6 and also jumped x-country on hard ground with no re-occurance??? I would say I only jump her 2 to 3 times a month at the moment as I am cautious of this injury but she does hack and school every day unbless she has comnpeted and she will have a day off. All suggestions gratefully recieved, thanks.
