HELP!!!!

how on earth do I (safely) get boot polish off leather? I bought some secondhand tack at the weekend and discovered its covered with the horrible stuff

Cloth, then Shoe brush and Elbow grease!!!

I thought that might be the answer, had hoped for something a bit quicker - its a pairs harness, I think I may be on a zimmer frame and the horses dead and gone (both 4yo's!) before I finish the task!
