i have started basic lateral work with my mare and she can do amazing leg yeild on the left rein however on the right rein she just can't do and goes like a plank of wood, she has had her back and tack checked and booked in friday for the dentist (though i don't think it is her teeth i just want to rule it out, she isn't overdue for teeth but better to be safe than sorry)

so saying her teeth are ok what exercses can i do with her to make her more supple on the right rein?

Have you had your back checked? and are you equally strong in both arms? Often this problem is caused by us having more strength on one side, rather than a problem with the horse

Carrot stretches will help her though x

have said above about checking everything ect. i could well be me i do struggle with my legs ect. have tried getting instructors but for some reason they keep letting me down, and i don't want anyone else riding her as she is a very sensitive mare.

so if it is me what can i do to help my suppleness

Cycling helps me (actually it put my back out and I had to see a chiropractor!) but cycling since has built up my core strength and helped with balance etc- for developing my right arm strength (I'm a lefty!) I make sure I carry water buckets and other heavy stuff with my right arm instead of my left

I see a chiropracter once a month to help keep everything loose and in alignment. A physio can also look at you and give you exercises to strengthen/straighten you out and improve your balance. Some sports physios will come and video you riding and show you what your problems are and then help you work on them.
