Hematoma's?????

Anyone have any experience on these? My mares going through a bad time at the minute bless her. But cut a long story short, she came in today with a tennis ball like lump about 5cm down from her jugular groove to the extent that she couldnt put her head down to eat or drink

Got vet out and he said it could be from the injection she had on sunday (where she had bute for releif of nasty colic) but is a bit high up so needs to check if vet on sunday injected particularly high. Just wanted to know if anyone has heard of hematoma's after injections and apart form Danilon and Antibiotics can anyone suggest any treatments?

My young gelding had a very nasty one last summer on his chest, probably caused by my filly booting him. It was really big, hard to start with then went squidgy, took a couple of weeks to go down but the Vet said to just leave it to nature, draining them doesn't always work for the best. I've also had horses get them after a jab, again they seem to disperse with time.

Is the vet able to aspirate it? Has it begun to harden yet or is it still soft?
