It's his ear this time... think he's got something in there. He's been shaking his head and scratching it, and today one of my colleagues said he was scratching at it and yelped a bit when he did so time for yet another trip to see his best mate the vet. There's no smell of infection though so hopefully it's just an inflamation caused by a grass seed or something similar and will be easy to sort out.

My vet will be driving a Merc by the end of the year!

Oh no

Bloody dogs! It might not be anything too serious if there is no discharge, scabbing or smells - they can be total drama queens where ears are concerned, but I know how worrying it can be!

I hope it's nothing bad as there is indeed no sign of discharge or smell but I want to get it nipped in the bud before we go on hoilday, and don't want it to turn into a bigger problem!

My bank manager is going to curl up and die

Good idea to get it checked out before you leave, I came back from the USA last year and my poor chap's ear was half hanging off. My mother isn't the most observant.....

Hey welcome to my world!! I currently have one rottie with an infected wound after an op on Friday. Got to bed at 4am as was so worried about him.
One horse with what looks like an allergic reaction to something on both hocks.
Finally another horse who lost a shoe on Sunday (still waiting for farrier to ring me back) and has now gone lame. Am hoping he is just a bit footsore on the hard ground.
Lovin' my 4 leggeds. My bank manager lost the will to live months ago!!

Oh no, what a thing to come back to!

Henry is coming on holiday with me but I really don't want to have to try and find another emergency vet!

Thank goodness I only have a dog and not a horse too! I almost got a horse last year as well but he wasn't quite what I was looking for - blessing in disguise I think though I was gutted at the time.

Fingers crossed the vet will laugh at me and call me a neurotic owner and it won't be anything serious.

Do you have insurance? You should - our insurance paid for itself in our first trip to the vets! Hope Henry is ok! (((hugs)))xxxx

Hello all

Well the vet has had a look and says he thinks there may be a stcky bud thing in there but it could equally have been wax. There was quite a lot of wax, so he has told me use ear cleaner twice a day and also some antibiotic eardrops twice daily that should clear anything up.

So it's good that it isn't serious. However I am GUTTED because the bill was £50 (unfortunately too little for the insurance, flamehead!) which means I now can't afford to go for a hack when I'm in Dorset the week after next. Have been looking forward to riding again for absolutely ages dammit.

However the main thing is that Henry is ok, thanks for all the good wishes

ETA PS flamehead - totally agree about the insurance, Henry's last vets bill was £1315, so insurance came in very handy at that point! Definately glad to have it.

Aw, what a bummer, but glad he is OK - could you get a lend off someone? And yowsers at that bill! Not that I can get B insured now, but we could have done with it last week, I tell you!

The parents might sub me I guess, or I might be bad and use my overdraft...

was really desperate to get back on a horse and do some galloping so we'll see. If not, I'll just have to wait and find somewhere to go closer to home

Yeah that's vets bill was a killer - nearly fell over when they gave me the invoice! Thank goodness for insurance

I said to Gareth the vet that our old dog had had annual vets visits for boosters and that had been it for most of his life...I have had Henry for 6 months now and I don't think a month has gone by without at least one trip! Gareth said, that's because he's a spaniel
