Beggars belief that there are no threads or comments on this in latest news. A legend in his own time, come on folks wake up, and share some memories of this icon,

Apols - when I looked earler saw nothing - coming back see that there was an earlier post - vagaries of up-dating, clearly (or not.........)

I once worked in HQ [Newmarket], and no one was more respected, more loved, more venerated.

He was a horseman and a genius, this, a rare gift presented by the gods.

I remember seeing him one misty morning on the Limekilns, standing side by side with Sir Michael Stoute on respective hacks. Henry was in his finest hand crafted chaps and purple johdpurs. His first string at that time was about forty strong, all the horses were behaving beautifully, with the head lad at the bottom of the gallops to make sure nothing went wrong: all riders relaxed and in good form.
Henry was on his part coloured hack, and in his element.

Things went awry for several seasons, and for several seasons, but he remained a gentleman, still his own man.

The Racing Post has been full of tales of people who met him, and were left with a happy memory, this may have been his gift to mankind.

Morpheus was the first winner for Lady Jane, followed by another one at another track, long may the winners roll out........... If there is a winner at Royal Ascot there will be tears galore ............ let them flow !

I await tomorrow's Morning Line, with interest. On the other thread, someone managed to include the thoughts of Alistair Down. Moving stuff.

Alec.
