Henry has been bad... but it was quite funny

Took Henry to the woods yesterday, which he found very exciting (honestly you'd think I'd never taken him for a walk before!).

It was all going swimmingly until we happened to bump into a couple out for what I assume was meant to be a romantic stroll. She was wearing a very nice cream coloured three quarter length coat which would have been great for walking through the middle of town and he had very smart (expensive looking) jeans on and was much less good looking than she was (but probably much richer - cynical? Moi?)

She also clearly had a thing about dogs (not in a good way!)... I was just a second too late whistling Henry so he went up to say hello - just walked up for a quick sniff and would have ignored her except... she ran round to hide behind her bf (who also looked less than pleased to see a smelly wet spaniel bearing down on him and his shiny shoes) but Henry followed her so she ended up running round and round the poor bloke followed by Henry until I got there to remove the little sod (who had of course gone totally deaf as soon as this fun game started...)

Thank goodness he decided against jumping up for a hug... the shock of pawprints on her lovely coat could have been fatal!

Have to say they were very good humoured though and just grinned a bit weakly as I apologised and told them he was still very young and so harm done (really got to work on my timing though)...

I would be more sympathetic / apologetic but I am single, broke and bitter about people in couples who can wear clothes without holes in them

Thank your lucky stars - if it was Sweep they would probably have had the full muddy paw treatment!!!

I think Sweep takes personal offence at anyone or anything that is cleaner than him......

Actually it is the one thing that he has managed to learn but up until about 12/18 months old there was little or no chance of stopping him as it was all toooooo exciting and how could anyone not want a spaniel cuddle??!!

I love that sort of Townie thought process though - dress like a fashion plate and then go for a walk in the woods and look horrified at the fact there is mud everywhere......

Otto keeps dashing up to people to say hello, and wussing out half way, I have to say I am extremely relieved as he is ALWAY filthy, and people don't seem to appreciate that, for some reason

I forgot to thank you, Hanandhen, your post about dispatching rabbits came in rather handy yesterday, when my Boss' terrier appeared with a very mixy rabbit. He isn't a "proper" terrier so had no idea how to kill it himself, and no one else at the yard was in a hurry to help, so I steeled myself and got on with it. Glad I read your post though! It wasn't as bad as I thought.

slinkyunicorn you always make me feel much better about Henry - at least he is being a typical spangle!

I was starting to think he was a special case

Henmeister - Glad to be of assistance!

Henry found a rabbit with mixy today but he didn't try to pick it up or kill it and it ran under the hedge when I got to it - I didn't really want to kill it but then I felt bad because I couldn't put it out of its misery

Glad to hear it works though for future reference - there are loads of poorly bunnies around us at the moment so think I might have to find out myself quite soon...
