Henry broke into the bin overnight and ate 2 kilos of rubbish... Looked so bloated and miserable this morning took him to emergency vets and now they are having to operate to take all the junk out

I'm so worried about him...

Need advice about tomorrow because am at my parents house right now which is 200miles from home - will Henry be up to making the journey home tonight? And if so am I better off taking him to work tomorrow and keeping him quiet there or leaving him at home alone?

Don't know what to do

is he having the op now?! If so, id say wait and ask the vet before making any decisions about what to do with him. If he has bloat you need to check with vets about management etc, if its just to get rid of all the crud he has just ingested it might be easier.

I doubt after a GA he would be up for a 200mile journey!!! Depending on how well he travels when healthy and how comfy you can make him. But after GA travelling that distance could mean many stops for toilet, possible vomiting etc, Id say give him an extra day to properly recover.... sorry!

He has to stay in overnight at least so will have to go without him. Apparently he had found some bones in the bin and one had gone lower down into the gut so had two incisions instead of one, so will be there for a while it seems.

Feeling pretty sh!tty right now.

Loads of recovery vibes for Henry and hugs for you. I know its hard when you want them back home with you but whilst he is recovering from the GA he is best at the vets.

O poor Henry!!

Lots of vibes from Sweep - hope he is all mended and back home soon.

You will think I'm nuts but get some aloe vera juice to put in his feed for the next fortnight or so - it helps them heal so much quicker and reduces scarring, risk of infection etc

Hugs for you and Henry.

xx

O thats gonna feel naf having to leave him, but your doing the right hting and he will be better sooner rather than later I am sure of it! :-)

Lots of recovery vibes heading yours and henrys way!

Quick update - Henry is ok this morning but still quiet - waiting for vet to call to see if he can come home today (I couldn't wait so called as soon as the surgery opened and spoke to the nurse!).

Am still worried but feel a bit better now as was terrified he wouldn't make it through the first night - just got it into my head somehow! I won't really feel right until I have him at home with me again.

Keep everything crossed for him

I understand exactly how you feel!!

I am already worrying about Sweeps operation - and I haven't booked him in for it yet!!

When he had his last op - I don't think I breathed from when I dropped him off until they phoned to say he was ok - couldn't tell you what I did that day at work......

Hugs for you both. xx

Just spoke to the vet, she is really pleased with him and I can pick him up when his drip has finished. He has had a walk and a good wee this morning and is bright and alert

My boss has been a star and is letting me leave early today and come in late tomorrow so will drive another 200 miles to get him tonight, stay with the folks then drive back tomorrow nice and slowly. Happily the top man here is also a vet so will have advice on hand (though he doesn't know this yet)

Me and my mum were both in tears when I called her to tell her!

Just got to say this is such a good advert for dog insurance - any guesses on how much this has cost so far - and how glad I am to have insurance right now???

Oh dear, scary. My old GSd had to have a lot of treatment, including an eye removed about 3 years ago, and it came to around £800 with several return visits which is what I was basing it on, I'm obviusly hopelessly out of date.

Lets just say its a good job I recently got a bank loan, that I have a big overdraft limit and that I have got insurance...!

I think the bank manager might keel over and die though...
