Anybody knowledgeable about using herbs to help horses? I’ve been recommended 2 things to help my horse, yarrow essential oil & ground green willow bark, please tell me how much to use, how often & how to administer them.

I use herbs sometimes I buy from a company called Feedmark though who can advise how best to use them. Yarrow grows easily so you could feed the fresh plant one of my old fields it was everywhere and the horses helped themselves. Willow bark I have never heard of sorry. Hope your horse is ok.

Willowbark is what aspirin is made of. Its primarily a pain killer but also an anti coagulant. You can buy both on line but would not necessarily feed together as yarrow would increase the uptake of the active ingredient in willowbark. Also feeding an anticoagulant with something to dilate the peripheral blood vessels might not be a terrifically clever idea - depending on the reasons of course. Was your advice from a herbalist specializing in horses?

My horses like eating willow including the bark - there is a lot of willow growing in their paddocks. Is it an option for you to plant some willow where your horse is kept so the horse can choose to eat it?

Equinatural are fantastic for advice! I once emailed them for a problem I had with one horse and they suggested a blend of kitchen herbs I already had at home. Their ready made blends are great too.

It was. Pony finds life very stressful & becomes very tight & tense if something worries her,

Just make sure you use a professional manufacturer of herbal supplements who knows how to keep it clean from fungi, measure active ingredients properly (where it grows and how much it rains etc influences the product) and list counter-indications (some cannot be used together)

If they are 'qualified' to advise then why have they not given you all the info you need, try contacting Hilton Herbs, they are very experienced and have a helpline you can call or you can do it inline, they will tell you how much to use, how to administer, everything I have used from there has been great quality and tends to help.
