Herbal Wormer

Do you use them and would you do a worm count every few months to check to see if they are working.

Also if you do use herbal wormers what type do you use thanks.

I use both herbal and chemical wormers (on different animals) and can recommend Verm-X.

I also worm count and poo pick and have never had a 'bad' result with either worm control method.

i know this is slightly different but there was an interesting article in a poultry magazine lately which tested 3 different batches of bird, 1st group had no wormer, 2nd group were given chemical wormer and 3rd group were given herbal wormer. the 3rd group came out the highest with worm burden after test. with the chemical wormer coming out best. and the margins weren't small either!

I would always chemically worm (and then worm count) any animal first prior to commencing a herbal programme. In theory the herbs create an environment that parasites cant live in so they move on rather than killing anything that may be present. I cant comment on chickens (although I do use herbs on mine) as Ive never had them worm counted!

Had a very interesting chat with the producers of one of the herbal products and learned a lot that cannot be stated in their literature.

If anyone is thinking of going over to herbal use can I suggest they get in touch with the manufacturers or which ever product they go for and have an in depth chat before making a decision.

Tried Verm X on our two horses.
Worked for one, but not the other.
Both worm checked which showed above result.
Now use chemical wormer all round.

like is said totally different type of animal but interesting results no the less. i personally chemically worm twice a year (for tape and encysted small red worms) and worm count once in the summer every time comes back low, never had a problem with any of my horses. we have individual turnout and i poo pick regularly (twice as day when turned out 24/7 sad aren't i?)

Not sure what other people use but I have good results with Verm-X and the best bit is the worm counts are free I used to worry about using harsh chemicals on my horses and of course the concerns about resistance.
