Hi all,

I have a very grumpy mare who can be very hormonal. Since Feb 2016, I have been giving her EasyMare Gold, which is also a calmer, which actually seems to have worked - she can feel like she will explode in March and April, and it seemed to take her through this very well. I should point out that I am not a fan of herbal supplements but actually this definitely worked - I had a prescription for Regumate which I didn't need to use.

Anyway, she is exceptionally grumpy and spooky at the moment, and feels similar to how she does when she is coming into her first season of the year, (hormonal as hell). I wondered if perhaps she has become immune to the supplement and whether taking her off it for a month might be a good idea.

Could any herbalists or homeopaths shed any light on this?

The supplement containts Agnus Castus, Vervain and Valerian (the latter in a small quantity).

Thanks!

Not a herbalist but we have mares coming into season at the moment. We've had to pull one of the young geldings out of the mixed herd because the flirting was leading to rug ripping, kicks and a LOT of squealing.

Apparently a cold spell is due in next week so hopefully that will settle the hormones down again...

I think that must be it too, she's always spooky coming into season. It's such a pain, I love her to bits but she's SOOO crabby. Thing is the supplement kept this kind of behaviour at bay last year, well, reduced it, but it doesn't seem to be working so much at the moment :-( which is why I'm wondering whether to give her a break from it and then try again. Failing that, in March, I will have to get Regumate as she just feels so unpredictable for about a month.
