What a star pony Herbie was today. (once we got him on the lorry that is. The less said about loading the better)
Today was the last Homelands Dressage show of the year and I was deturmined to go despite being ill with the flu and spending most of yesterday in bed.
We arrived at the show in plenty of time despite his antics with the loading but I desided it was best not to warm him up as there were a couple of horses being rather naughty in the warmup area.
I got him ready and led him quietly round away from the naughty horses and tried to do abit of inhand suppling excersies. Before long we were being called to the arena.
I led him to the arena and he seemed quite tence. I managed to find a random person to close the school gate behind me once I had ridden him in :)
I rode upto the judges box and told her my number. She told me to breath to which I replyed "I can't I have the flu" :P
The judge rang her bell and I started my test. Herbs felt fab despite the fact that I was ill and all the antics of the morning.
I started my figure of 8 and halfway round I hurd the bell ring. I stopped thinking I had gone wrong. The judge said it the bell for the other arena, not to worry and carry on. So thats what I did. We got through the rest of the test. Herbie cantered when I asked him and didn't stop till I asked him his trot work was fairly forward and his walk work was relaxed for him and he didn't jog after the free walk so I was happy with how it had gone.
Next I went over to the showjumping arena as I had entered the 1ft9-2ft class. I asked how big the jumps were going to be and they said not much bigger than they were at the mo (someone was doing a tiny clear round) so I desided to wait for the class.
The clear round finished and they put the jumps up. They now looked huge!!!! (I'm shore they weren't but to me they looked massive :P ) I made myself wait for the class and I had to wait a little longer as I wasn't quickenough to get my name down first and ended up 4th to go.
Herbs ofcourse was a star and thoughaly enjoyed himself jumping. I was terrified having not realy jumped for ages and not being showjumping for over 2 years. He looked after me though and we got a slow double clear and came 8th. The placing didn't matter to me I did it and thats what counts :D. I took Herbie back to the lorry (again the less said about loading the better) Once he was in the lorry I went to get my dressage sheet. Not having very high expectations due to my illness and Herbies stressheadyness I was gobsmacked to see we had come 3rd with 63.42%.
As always with the shortarse nutjob pony a day is never 100% without incedents but I think I can forgive him the loading (this once) seeing as he was a super star the rest of the day esp showjumping. :)

And now for a very special introduction, Meet Lot 44, AKA Hilltop Sage, 5 month old, forest Bred, New forest colt. I bought him on Wed at the Beaulieu Road Pony sales. The pics are of him in the pre sale foal show where he stood Champion foal. Still can't believe how cheap I got him for he's a smashing little lad. (Photos are by Audrey Scott-Hopkins and I have her permition to post them online)

Well done with herbie... you don't know this but you & herbie are a big inspiration to me... about 4 years ago you posted a dressage test and it gave me the courage (ok it was 3 years later !!) to do a test ( ok.. only on line as not yet brave enough to do "in the real world" )... so thank you ... and keep your reports coming !!

The new addition looks gorgeous ... hope you have wonderful times ahead with him.

x x

Awwww thankyou tiggipop. So glad your giving dressage a go. Doesn't matter if it's online your still giving it a go and thats what it's all about :D

Huge well done and tootles off to peek at Sage's breeding. He's got a nice lot of bone. :)

You see people, foresters are addictive! :D

Liked his sire at the passing, he's also a cousin to my filly. Cara's grandsire is also Sentator.

Thankyou everyone so proud of Herbie and so in love with my new colt :D

Peregrine Falcon can you believe he only cost 75gns. I went to the sale to buy him specificly and was so scared he would be out of my budget. He's a smasher and settled in realy well. Not put a foot wrong so far. :D

Yes not many fillys there atall. I think most are keeping hold of any fillys they have.
Sage's half brother was the top priced colt 610gns. He was the lot before Sage and had come 4th in the colt class that realy made me scared I wasn't going to be able to afford Sage. Lucky for me noone else realy wanted him. I think thats because he's ment to make about Herbies size. People don't seem to like the shortarse foresters.
Yes you'll have to come and meet him he's so cute.

Yep, seen the reports and prices. Colts aren't popular as the sales, shame as they make great riding ponies. I bet you had a buzz bidding then! I know when I bid for a mare one year I had butterflies.

It's the scaryest thing I've ever done.
I felt sorry for the people sitting next to me. I was stressing so much. When the hammer went down and the auctioner was taking down my number I almost burst into tears.

Sage is gorgeous Laura!

What height do you expect him to make? He's got a good amount of bone and such a pretty face.

Hope you are going to keep him as your next riding pony. Be nice for you to have one without baggage (no offence Herbs!)

Thankyou Both.

Bigbenji yes the plan is to keep him :D I figered this is the only way I could affored a nice quality pony without any baggage. (I love Herbie dearly and wouldn't change him for the world but it's been a 6 year battle to get him to where he is today) Sage is ment to mature a little smaller than Herbie so hopefuly small enough that I can steal someones child and do LR or FR classes with him to. But who knows it'll be exciting finding out though and whatever happens he only cost me £78.75 so either way he's a chacking little bargin :D

William may have grown too much by then! Or you could breed your own?!

Great report, really well done on the jumping and the score in the dressage!
Love the little colt, and the herbie, sage names give you a funky little theme :D
If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you and herbie?

Well done on both Herbie's (mostly, we won't mention the loading) good day and on picking up an adorable little cracker!

I don't know if I've missed anything but do you still have Merryn?

DabDab Thankyou, yes it does seem like it was all pland name wise ;) and not at all. I am 5ft2 and Herbs is about 13hh.

annagain thankyou. Yes I still have Merryn we just plod about the roads either with me riding him or sat in his cart. He still doesn't put much effort into life bless him (unless it involves food that is) :)
