What a star pony Herbie was today. (once we got him on the lorry that is. The less said about loading the better)
Today was the last Homelands Dressage show of the year and I was deturmined to go despite being ill with the flu and spending most of yesterday in bed.
We arrived at the show in plenty of time despite his antics with the loading but I desided it was best not to warm him up as there were a couple of horses being rather naughty in the warmup area.
I got him ready and led him quietly round away from the naughty horses and tried to do abit of inhand suppling excersies. Before long we were being called to the arena.
I led him to the arena and he seemed quite tence. I managed to find a random person to close the school gate behind me once I had ridden him in
I rode upto the judges box and told her my number. She told me to breath to which I replyed "I can't I have the flu"
The judge rang her bell and I started my test. Herbs felt fab despite the fact that I was ill and all the antics of the morning.
I started my figure of 8 and halfway round I hurd the bell ring. I stopped thinking I had gone wrong. The judge said it the bell for the other arena, not to worry and carry on. So thats what I did. We got through the rest of the test. Herbie cantered when I asked him and didn't stop till I asked him his trot work was fairly forward and his walk work was relaxed for him and he didn't jog after the free walk so I was happy with how it had gone.
Next I went over to the showjumping arena as I had entered the 1ft9-2ft class. I asked how big the jumps were going to be and they said not much bigger than they were at the mo (someone was doing a tiny clear round) so I desided to wait for the class.
The clear round finished and they put the jumps up. They now looked huge!!!! (I'm shore they weren't but to me they looked massive
) I made myself wait for the class and I had to wait a little longer as I wasn't quickenough to get my name down first and ended up 4th to go.
Herbs ofcourse was a star and thoughaly enjoyed himself jumping. I was terrified having not realy jumped for ages and not being showjumping for over 2 years. He looked after me though and we got a slow double clear and came 8th. The placing didn't matter to me I did it and thats what counts
. I took Herbie back to the lorry (again the less said about loading the better) Once he was in the lorry I went to get my dressage sheet. Not having very high expectations due to my illness and Herbies stressheadyness I was gobsmacked to see we had come 3rd with 63.42%.
As always with the shortarse nutjob pony a day is never 100% without incedents but I think I can forgive him the loading (this once) seeing as he was a super star the rest of the day esp showjumping.
And now for a very special introduction, Meet Lot 44, AKA Hilltop Sage, 5 month old, forest Bred, New forest colt. I bought him on Wed at the Beaulieu Road Pony sales. The pics are of him in the pre sale foal show where he stood Champion foal. Still can't believe how cheap I got him for he's a smashing little lad.
