Here we go again :(

Very sad. But maybe slightly different to those who leave dogs to shop as she was meant to be out of the car. I imagine the teaches who forgot to get her out is guilt ridden.
As a separate question but similar topic. If dog is outside in sun with no shade for 3 hours say but with water is that ok health wise?

DizzyDancer I would say no. Put simply would you like to sit in the sun for three hours with no shade when it's hot? People leave dogs in cars with windows down and water available and think its ok. Poss for a short time but I just wouldn't risk it. It's not air or water that is the issue, it's the heat.

I have had mine out in the heat at shows and used up a lot of water trying to keep them cool, both watering them and cooling down their tummies. I actually ended up heading to the shade as they weren't comfortable. I don't even take them up to the yard when it is really hot as cant seem to offer them sufficient shade whatever I do. I go up earlier or later.

I felt this story wasn't quite the normal run of forgetful owner. It was a tragic mistake. I do wish though that the Daily Mail had pointed out just how quickly a car heats up in that sort of heat, even with windows open. Last year I stuck a thermostat in the boot of my jeep to keep an eye in the temperature ...and was astounded at now little time it took to become unbearable. I crate mine so can leave everything open with a wet towel over the top or even take the crate out and put it in the barn.

I agree it may be a tragic mistake, but every driver must know how quickly a car heats up in the sun or just on a hot day. One only has to sit in a traffic jam for a couple of minutes before it becomes unbearable. I think people choose not to think.

That is so sad. It must be an awful way to die as well. They surely must have been able to put in place an alternative place for her to wait? I'm sure they could have raised funds for a kennel if she couldn't sit in with the secretary or similar.

I would imagine that it's the worst death possible. The last ten minutes, before the dog becomes unconscious must be a torment. There will be those on here who think that I have a rather careless attitude with my dogs, and they may well have a point, but my fear of such an accident, sometimes approaches obsession.

Awful. That poor creature.

Alec.

Was also stunned when I read it - even though someone was meant to pick the dog up, or whatever, it gets hot so quickly you just wouldn't risk it.

They must feel utterly horrendous - that poor dog.
