Either the fireworks have started up here, or someone is staging an impromptu reenactment of the Battle of the Bulge... Hen is ok, if a tad clingier than normal, but I'm guessing we'll be moving his bed into our room soon.

I do like fireworks and I wouldn't want to see them banned or anything, but it does seem a little early to be starting... Hey ho!:rolleyes:
 
they have started here too the lurcher has just started scratching at the door to be with me, she will follow me everywhere now till they stop, I have 2 dogs that dont care and she is the youngest so has always had their influence but she is terrified- I have to remember to keep the bathroom window shut all the time as she has been caught going mad at the window to get out before and it is on the first floor

Hen isn't terrified, but he gets unsettled by it. He had a bit of a growl at the first big one that went off, and he's having a little look at subsequent ones, but that's all. He just likes to be with one of us, and then he settles.

Our old dog, in contrast, used to sit outside watching them! Never so much as a flinch, bless him :)
 
she does not panic so much now but I don't trust her anymore since finding her on the window sill in the bathroom digging through the towels and the window open next to her-I have just had a shower and she was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me when I came down she settles with me but no with the other dogs she is a bit like this when she is in season but not quite as bad. drives you nuts after a while poor thing
I have to remember not to let her out for a wee too as she will bolt out of fear but if I put her on a lead and walk her she is fine,

my old dog used to watch them too
 
Ive been given one of those cds to desensatise dogs and have been playing on my laptop continually, its for the benefit of my foster dog who is incredibly nervous. I did have it on low and turned it up to full volume, my daughter came home and said dosnt that drive you mad mum ,but to be honest I dont notice it now so I guess thats the whole point lol.
 
I have plugged in the adaptil (about an hr or so ago) but everywhere I go she has to be touching me-can't use the crate at the mo as the eldest dog as 15 has started to think indoors is an ok place to pee so the 2 oldies are in the large crate together when they are indoors not being watched. the thing is I have not even heard any fire works but she obviously has

have tried the sound cd's to desensitise her and we get to a point she is ok with it then the real things happen and we are back to suare one-it think it is the vibrations as much as the noise that worry her
 
I also have Dorwest Valerian on standby just in case, (I have the rescues approval) he freaks out at anything to be honest, this morning it was a feather, he sniffed it and because it was wet it stuck to his nose and he had a major meltdown.
 
I live in a big city, so it will be endless fireworks from now on until after new year as we've got Halloween, bonfire night, Diwali, Christmas and new year to look forward to. This thread has reminded me to go and get an adaptil plug in today, as my two are neurotic enough at the best of times and having the bitch endlessly pacing and asking to go out so that she can chase fireworks is not relaxing for either of us.
 
I don't find adaptil works but have had some success with Zylkyne and Johnsons calm-eze has the same active ingredient as Zylkyne for a fifth of the price.
 
I like fireworks but they should be restricted to professional displays - massively reduce the firework injury rate and would mean that they only happen on specific evenings. My collie is terrified of bangs, restricting them would mean I could sedate on the nights we knew they were going to be going off instead of having months of scared dogs
 
We are very rural but I actually made a point of walking mine during the fireworks in the villahe last year as he has to do a gun sureness test, so the more neutral he is, the better!!
