Here's another "weight" question.....

I'd say probably horse weight as that would hopefully mean it is fitter and more able to carry weight, will be better for its heart etc. Plus as JFTD says it carries that all day whereas a rider might only be on for half an hour to an hour a day, but ideally both!
 
It's swings and roundabouts. A horse being overweight by 10 kg is not much and it will be spread over its body. If it is only overweight by 10 kg then it is unlikely it would suffer any detriment. However, if it is overweight by 60 kg, then that 10 kg could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and could tip it over the edge into laminitis or joint problems. The rider weight on the other hand, is concentrated on TOP of the back on a very small weight bearing area. So I think that loss of 10 kg in riders weight would be more beneficial (IF the horse is only overweight by 10 kg).
