Here's one that might set some sparks flying...

I just think each to their own, if you like it and it suits you then good for you.

Im not into it personally but I have nothing against it if done correctly like all things!

I think that this has been done to death on here, sparks have flown, arguments have raged. I dont think that there is any more to say. Boring.

Personally I don't like it, for a few reasons - I think that it is confusing for the horses, I think alot of the horses look bored/unhappy, I think alot of the gadgets they use arn't 'natural' and I think the prices that are charged for some of these natural horsemanship techniques are astronomical!!

The main method I think that has alot to answer for is parelli, personally I think they are very patronising if anyone questions the methods and also I think they have in certain situations been abusive to horses. That's just my opinion from what I've seen and I also feel that way about a certain well known tv dog trainer.

Some things I see done by 'natural horsemanship methods' is just common sense to me. Like not forcing a frightened horse into a trailer, beating/chasing it etc because surely it will make the horse even more frightened?! To me it would be usual practice to gradually get it used to the trailer and encourage it to understand it has nothing to be afraid of... However if it is just being a little b*gger then thats another story! Might get my hair off a little bit! :p

I also respect each individual’s choices and opinions (as long as the horse isn't suffering etc) and have seen the benefits of it. HOWEVER I do think that some of the techniques/names simply saw a gap in the market and exploit a lot of people.

A certain Mr. Peace came out to see my friend's horse that would not load and behaved in a despicable manor. He completely lost his temper and was very unfair on the horse.... he never got her to load. A lot of them prey on people that are emotionally vulnerable as it is often used as a last resort.

I honestly think that natural horsemanship is a load of b***s. Yes, join up is an excellent concept, to bond with and create a pecking order with your own horse in its own language is common sence, but to treat your horse ‘naturally’ to me would mean for it to live out on miles and miles of land, never to be touched, halter broken or ridden. This is the ONLY way that a horse is treated in a way that is natural to them, anything else is completely and utterly un-natural so I find people who call there way of training or way of riding ‘natural horsemanship’ barbaric. Although everybody would love to believe otherwise, no horse truly enjoys anything that we do with them, being ridden, stabled, rugged, travelled ect it goes against every ounce of natural instinct they have. However humans are selfish, and they want to do all of these things, but make themselves feel better by claiming that the horse want to aswell.

Yes this has been done to death many times before. Perhaps if you are genuinely interested and not just wanting to start arguements then search for previous threads on this matter? There are a hundred Parelli ones.

Would not let any of them within 1000 miles of my horses, and I also dont understand how anyone else can put any trust in them at all, but its not my business what they do, However there is a young mare at my yard with a novicey owner who uses NH, the mare is a bully to both other horses and humans alike in the field and squashed a friend of mine last week whilst she was catching her mare, it needs telling off and teaching some manners but the owner will not have a bad word said about her mare nor will she sort it out, my friend was luckliy un hurt but I can see their being a nasty accident before the women will correct the issue, all because of NH!! its not fair on the rest of us to deal with this pain in the arse mare when ours are all pretty easy to handle.
