Morning everyone!
With all the excitement over the olympics its hard to concentrate on anything else but can I have some advice?
Does anyone have any experience of hernias in horses? Hovis has always had a little bulge right in front of his man bits, where I think the umbilical cord would be. Recently though its got a bit bigger. He'll let you touch it etc with no reaction but I'm wondering if its a hernia? The vets are coming tonight but I wondered if anyone had any experience of hernias in horses? Is it a major issue or something easily corrected? It might not be one but I think it is

Don't worry about it at all - it is an everday occurrence (well, sort of) with foals and even older horses. The easiest way is to put a rubber band around it - don't you do it though - it will be the vet who does it. Unless it's a major problem - an operation would be undertaken. We've had both done over the years with our horses.

Thumpy has got exactly the same thing - I think it's a fly bite. Thumper's has a little head on it.

Does yours????

Ah, Thumper's is hard - not fluid filled, although it is quite large.

May be worth the vet having a little look next time he's up??
