Sash the lurcher is old now. When I got her (as an adult) she had a slight hernia so when she was spayed they sorted it out. I was 'doing her tummy' last night and her belly button looks like it has a hernia again, flattish but bobbly (that is a clear description!). Is that common? She is off to the vets again soon anyway but I wondered if any of you have had that. She is about 13+ now.

Presumably you mean an umbilical hernia rather than a hiatus hernia? In my experience umbilical hernias have never been a problem and I have never known of one being operated on, so they have never had the chance to re-occur as they have just remained as they were :) A lot of vets seem very concerned about them, but in 30 odd years of encountering them I have never known one which has gone wrong.

I suppose that if the stomach wall broke again then another hernia could occur - sorry to be unhelpful, but I would consult your vets as they operated on it in the first place? Hope everything is OK x

Thanks PN. Yes it was an umbilical hernia. Interesting that you don't bother about them. It isn't red or sore looking, I will just keep an eye. She has got a growth on her that that needs reexamining in 2 weeks so will mention it then.
