Horse is 11 yo, looks nice, has done a bit of eventing and hunting. Altho I would expect to negotiate the price. Would you buy a horse with one? I suppose it depends whether its an umbilical or an inguinal hernia.

I got given a horse with a inguinal hernia and had to be put down after problems a few months later. After that it's put me off and wouldn't again

Yes :) I have one. Although hers is tiny, less than one finger, and the vets consider it completely insignificant so it could be different from your situation. My vet says if she were to vet it she would pass it as there is no way on gods earth any gut could slip through. Some days you can't even see it. She is only 2 but no way it'll clear up on its own. There is talk of putting a band on it just to tidy it up as I want to show her. Obviously hers is umbilical or I'd be worried!

What does your vet reckon?

My horse and her hernia. Shamefully I didn't even notice the bleeding thing when I viewed her. (It was February, she was very hairy and more or less unhandled so I didn't much fancy poking her in the belly and it was invisible in the fluff)

I could have made a fuss but didn't seem worth it really as I quite like her. Doesn't seem to bother her much. Don't suppose I'd go out of my way to buy one like it unless I could get a reasonable amount off the price.

My last horse had one - never troubled him :)

he evented to 1* and was in hard work - never caused a problem :)

his was right under the middle of his belly! But passed two 5* vettings as was never a problem!

I would, quite happily buy one :)
