hi all!

I am going to try a horse from HEROES ex=racehorse re-hab centre, has anyone got a horse from there before? I have been told about a few horses I love the sound of!! but I think I have only been told about half the costs and I don't want to ask till I have seen the horse's, because then I can't talk myself out of it saying it will be too much!!!! lol! :p

But on the side of reality can anyone who has got a horse from there before tell me how much it all costs roughly????

Thank you!!! Charlotte :)

Most of their horses are loan horses, and I think with those, you have to pay a donation annually, but I'm not totally sure how the loan works because I have bought mine. The ones for sale are all priced differently, depending on the horse and what it's capable of, etc. I paid about the same as I would have if I'd have bought him privately. He had already started his retraining. He wasn't as 'cheap' as the ones some people have bought directly from auction or trainers. However if you have one from Heros you will know what you are getting. The ones ready for rehoming are all up to weight and have been well cared for and have had all their checks; back, teeth, worming, etc. Heros are very honest, and tell you all the good and bad points. They tell you all about any health issues the horse has had in its past, they point out any conformation faults to you. They'll tell you if it wont jump, or if it's naughty to hack, etc.

I would thoroughly recommend getting a horse from there. They do a great job and will give you plenty of help if you need it.

My horse is amazing and I love him very much. It's also nice knowing so much about his past life. I have videos of him racing and I have traced his pedigree back to the 1800's.

hi

thanks for your post!!

the horse i am looking at is for 'life loan' they said to me you have to pay a donation of £1,500, then pay for him to be delivered (£1.50+vat per mile) and pay to go on a course with them (not sure how much this is) and pay £30 each time I visit (they recomend 5-6 times) and i'm sure there is going to be more!! I love the sound of this horse and yes they are honest and seem like lovely lovely people!! The cost isn't really a problem, was just looking for a rough estimate from someone before I go!!

How much did you pay in total??

Thanks Charlotte x :)

I bought him for £5k but I would not have been able to buy a young, sound, safe horse like him, for less than that privately. He does everything without fuss. We've got a few issues at the moment where he gets over excited at bigger shows, and he thinks he's at a race meeting I think, but at home, schooling, jumping, hacking and going out to quiet events he's very good, and is an absolute pleasure to do.

I paid for the first visit to Heros, and I can understand why they do it, as they have to pay staff to look after me while I'm there and I imagine they get lots of timewasters having a look. I didn't do a course or anything but I suppose that was because I was buying him. I did have him delivered and the delivery price was about the same as you say (which was less than any other transport company would have charged). I also bought a couple of sacks of feed with him, so that he could adjust slowly to what we would be feeding him.

Heros will tell you about his racing form, and what he has done, and why he is now at Heros. They will also have photos of him racing (they did of my horse). To trace the pedigree and for videos got to www.racingpost.com and www.attheraces.com

Thank you sooo much that is all brilliant!!
Yeah I understand why they charge, i think i would too if i were them!!

Thank you for the links etc!!
