Herringbone travel?

Really stupid question with (I'm sure) a very obvious answer no doubt. Why when horses travel herringbone in lorries do they nearly always face the kerb?
 
I think they mostly do travel, head towards curb.

I would hazzard a guess that the reason being that you want the most weight on the drivers side, possibly to do with the camber of the roads and roundabouts etc. Is it the same reson that you always travel the heaviest or only horse on the drivers side in a trailer.
