Firstly apologies for posting this in several sections, I just want to make sure it gets seen.
Several years ago my OH who is a Helo pilot found out that Hertfordshire was one of a small number of counties in the UK that did not have dedicated Air Amb cover. As you can imagine we were horrified by this as we have 2 children both doing high risk sport and always just assumed the cover was there.
Well he got off his butt and got into action and launched an Appeal for a Herts Air Amb. With the help and backing of the Essex Air Amb the Flight For Life Appeal was launched in April 2007.
As you probably know Air Amb service is funded entirely from public donation, no government or lottery funding.
In the last 18 months the people of Herts have raised 1/2 million pounds, for the last year we have had a joint initiative with Essex. Herts is the last county in the UK to get cover - disgusting when you realise what a wealthy county it is.
On Wed the Herts Air Amb is being unveiled at the Fairlands Valley Firework display in Stevenage - a huge free display.
I am so proud of my OH and all the work he has done, luckily we have our own business as I guess on average a day a week is spent on Air Amb matters, all this has obviously had an effect on our family lives with us all getting involved in fund raising and events.
Once the Helo is working properly it will cost approx £80 000 a month to run it, so the hard work will continue, it will be so pleasing when the first life is saved due to Robs initiative and hard work.
I just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated and made this possible.
