This has been happening in my area too, someone let out 6 horses up the road from where mine are last week and 9 cows onto a main road at the weekend.
is this happening in lots of areas at the moment?
Glad yours were found unharmed

Thats terribe... can you give more details on location only we are on herts /beds border and have loads of yards near by.
if it is near us i can let people know.

Hi Vicki, do you mind me asking where in Beds you are? PM if preferred, as I am in Beds too. I also know of a break in in Beds just off the A6 near Clophill roundabout. Apparently no horses were stolen, but other expensive horsey stuff was. I heard that they poisoned the owners two guard dogs, who both died.

South Bucks too - break in at our previous yard, they went through the horses field but were after equipment rather than horses - but left the fence down. YO pony found on the road at 5am!

I'm on the herts / bucks border and several yards close to us have been broken into and had tack stolen recently, so I'm taking my saddle home. I can't even imagine what I'd do if my horses were taken. This is just too frightening.

I was followed on my hack, early on Tuesday morning. They were in a white Nissan Navara . It looked brand new and was so clean it looked odd. They followed me on the road for about 5 minutes and wouldn't overtake, and then when I turned into the private road which goes towards our yard, they stopped and watched me for about 30 seconds before driving off.

I told the yard manager, and then later in the afternoon that same truck came down our private road and had a good look round, before someone came out, and they turned round and went off. The police were informed.

[/ QUOTE ]How awful for you...but what I don't understand, is what did you expect the police to do? camp out in your field incase the people came back. It's really terrible and you must be completely on edge for fear of it happening again.

Er no - but as they were still in the hedge for a good 30 minutes after i called the police had someone bothered to even drive past they may actually have caught them and my horses would never have been let out.
They responded the NEXT DAY - and even then they only went to the house next door and asked if they had seen anything - they never even called me back as they said they would.
Plus as a lone female, in the dark with 3 big men in the field you would like to think they would take some notice.
