Well the guy who was getting rid of the chestnut gelding has decided to get shot of his Friesian now

The horse is our stable neighbor, and although Chico doesnt like him for some reason, he is a real gentle giant, so noble looking.

He has someone come to view him this evening - they came armed with a parelli carrot stick and rope and us liveries all had a giggle as the horse dragged the viewer over the field, completely confused as to what they were trying to get him to do.

Everyone at the yard likes the horse, he is stunning, but no-one has the cash to buy him sadly.

I had to chuckle as the viewer came on the yard with a black bin liner tied to the end of their carrot stick.
Surely you want to ride a prospective purchase, not wave a bag at it :D:D

The cheek of someone turning up with a carrot stick to view a horse!! I wouldn't let them within a mile of the horse. One thing if it's already highly trained in the noble art of being poked with a stick/flapped at with a bag, but really...

It's like turning up to ride/try a horse wearing massive spurs and carrying a piaffe whip. You just don't do it unless the owner suggests.

Amusing though...and serves them damn right!

My view exactily
Poor pony, I do like a nice friesian..

Hello,

I am new to the H&H Forum, just looking for some advice buying my first Friesian (not my first horse tho).

Anyone know anywhere that sells them and is reputable? What price should I expect to pay for a Gelding, about 5 that has been broken in and is going nicely.

Thanks :):)

Black Beauty, you need to know the National Friesian Horse Society (as quoted in this horse's advert) does not exist and any papers issued in its name are worthless.
For a good, trained 5 year old you are looking at £5 -6,000.

Blackbeauty
, decent well bred friesians can be expensive depends on what your looking for
A well bred papered , friesian in to days climate can range from 4000 upwards
Possibly 3000 anything under that , is either not fully fps registered or has health issues or is not a full friesian
If you buy over here and want one that is papered make sure the papers match the horse
It is not often that FPS registered Friesians are offered for sale in the UK, do be aware that there are many x-bred Friesians and unregistered Friesians out there which are passed off as being KFPS registered
But unregistered friesian are cheaper
Also Be careful alot of uk people classify the stallions to be approved for breeding
This is not the case no uk friesian stallions are granted licencses in the uk
Buying a friesian is the right time really as they are dropping in price at this currunt moment in time due to the financial problems
Good luck !!!

This is an organisation in the USA and is not the 'National' Friesian Horse Society as quoted in the advert. The only society that can issue genuine friesian papers is the FPS. There are friesians in this country with papers issued by societies which had no official basis and no longer exist.

oh thx

That Friesian in the advert has got ghastly hind leg conformation!

If you want PROPER and WORTHWHILE advice on buying a Friesian, please ignore all the other 'recommended' people, and phone anyone on the FHAGBI committee (Friesian Horse Association of Great Britain and Ireland). FHAGBI is affiliated to the FPS (the Dutch Friesian studbook), and is the ONLY organisation in the UK who carries this affiliation.

Website is http://www.fhagbi.co.uk/

Looking for advice on buying the only people to chat to in the Uk are the FHAGBI, try contacting Tracey through the web site.

Some registered horses are for sale but you will pay money for them. Look for green/yellow papers and an FPS Passport. Good luck in your search. I have two of these 'black pearls'.

I found the only way to buy and know what you are getting was to purchase a foal from Holland through reputable sources. I now have a beautiful 16hh filly due to be backed next spring. No health issues and a temprement that is just fantastic and also works well with my other studbook friesian mare.
If you want to breed quality you need to use AI and ship semen in, we have no licenced approved stallions in the UK. Its very easy and quick and working with fresh is best if it can transport in 24 hours.
