After a four month trial, my boy is now mine (barring a few small technicalities)

For those of you that don't know, here's our story:

Late November last year I was browsing project horses, after a post on here. Absent minded, I was checking through the 16handers and came across Ed. To coin a phrase from Black Beauty, he was foul tempered, he was mean spirited, he was beautiful (or something of that ilk!)

Something must've come over me that day, I wasn't even looking for a horse, let alone one with aggression issues but I emailed his owner and went back to my normal day-to-day doings.

I think it was a week later I had the reply from his owner, tentatively she asked where I had seen him advertised, as he was truly not suitable for many people and she had so many timewasters call and wasn't sure she even wanted to sell him anymore.

We chatted for a long time via email, I sent her photos of my previous horses and we talked about how Ed is so very particular with what he likes and doesn't like.

After a phonecall and a lot of thought each way, I decided I wanted Ed.

Now to the crux. I wasn't even ready for a horse again, I had no savings for him and his owner was really worried about Ed finding the right home, when she offered me a 4 month trial I jumped at it.

He arrived after a 4 hour journey from Yorkshire to Wales. He came off the lorry - a horse I hadn't tried, from a lady I hadn't met. From an owner who didn't knwo me from Adam and who hadn't had any money for him!

I was terrified.

He came off the lorry, all dark chestnut fur, sweaty and staring.

I was in love!

He was gorgeous. Tubby, furry, ginger boy.

His quirks were instantly visible, he was very scared/aggressive when approached by strangers. He was stressy in the stable and outwardly evil to anyone who went to him in the stable. He was tolerant of me and soon he would come trotting down the field to see me.

He was a perfect ride, genuine, safe and once I am on his back he is a different horse, anyone can approach him and a child could ride him. He's a bold, careful jumper who has ignited a love of jumping in myself. Don't get me wrong, he is hard work, some days I just want a cuddle and thats a no go area!

But I wouldn't change him for the world.

His owners trust in me and mine in her meant I could have a horse unseen and unpaid for, for a 4 month trial. His owner is a geuine gem and one in a million, with all the mistrust in the world its nice to see if you are open and honest, you can find your dream horse!

Have we seen pics of him. Sounds like my boy who is also chestnut with the emphasis on nut!! He isn't evil though just a pain in the ass.

Its so nice to hear stories that have turned out well!

He sounds like he has landed on his feet with you! They always seem to find you when you least expect it

Orrr that's a nice post, you see we all like to hear about these success stories now and again....keeps us all sane and give us all hope lol.

Seriously though, sometimes following you heart...doing the insane, trusting the unknown etc rather than your listening to your sensible head does pay off in the end.

He's sturdy and handsome looking chap, hope you have lots of fun together.

He cant be blamed really, for the wrongs that have happened to him in his life. I have seen him quivering like an idiot when a burly old man flicked a horse in his direction

Congrats on new horse - looks a sweetie!

Ahh thats a lovely story, im sure over time you will get to cuddle him!! My mare had a terrible reputation when i got her, she was very aggresive in the stable, out riding perfect, over the years she has mellowed and now 13yrs on i can cuddle her without getting eaten (but only when she feels like it!). Keep plodding on with him and he will repay you back tenfold id bet money on it!!
