Finally my perfect horse is mine!!!!
I've had him on loan from R2R on here for 8 months but last night R2R came round and we gave her the money and now he is all mine
.
For those of you that don't know my *new* horse is a 16.1hh TB Chestnut 5 yr old Gelding. I met him 8 months ago shortly after I had lost my lovely grey. I had previously had terrible experiences of trying to buy horses and I was all burnt out, after loosing my girl I couldn't face getting the wrong horse. R2R said I could loan him and at any point I could give him back if he wasn't right.
Well after trying (and failing) to buy expensive irish horses I didnt know if I wanted a scrawney, under-developed, likely to be tricky, young ex-racer. However I was desperate to give my love to a horse and he did have the cutest face I had ever seen so he came to live at my house.
He's been a dream since day 1. I've been lucky enough to have some superb horses and he is right up there with the best of them. When he came he was gangly and babyish, I got some funny looks from people who thought him very average. I was the one riding him though and I knew he was good. He is very good. He is such a lovely, easy, pleasurable ride. Probably the easiest horse I have ever ridden. Hes sensitive but safe and nothing phases him much, he is a pick the reins up and do nothing sort of ride!
Since I've had him he was placed in his first ever BD comp and first show. He has continued to get really good marks dressage. We have represented our Riding club on the teams and he was so well behaved. He has jumped clear round his first ever showjumping course at a show. He jumped BSJA water trays and fillers first time without hesitating. I have been brave enough to take him XC schooling (big thing as i'm a wimp) and he can now jump ditches, go through water and up and down steps. He can be a cheeky little monkey sometimes as you would expect from a growing lad but he always listens to 'No' and tries his hardest to please. My confidence is growing! Jumps seem small on him and dressage easy
I'm even happy to load him up and take him out on my own (never done that before!), he's so lovely. He falls asleep when I put his travel boots on and he doesnt mind being left in the field or stable on his own...Yet he can perk up, arch his neck and flick his toes to look like the most beautiful, spirited horse there is. Even when I mess up a stride badly to a fence he will try so hard to get over it without touching anything.
Suddenly all my dreams and ambitions that seemed so far away a year ago, are beginning to become a possibility thanks to my boy. Sometimes you can find the perfect horse in the most unlikely of places and in the most unlikely form. My Bargain basement ex-racer is a star and I wouldn't swap him for a million pounds
Here's to MY horse
