Hessian sacks

While house clearing I have found a large quantity of hessian sacks. It seems a shame to chuck them but not sure what I could use them for...they don't make them anymore do they? Any ideas? Ta

If you have a nearby country show happening see if anyone from the vintage agricultural farm machinery display could use them. Adds authenticity to those running corn milling machines. Or have sack races!

Do you have a nursery or primary school near you? They might take them for sports day/ gym lessons etc

Great thinking! Had better wash them first though as found a few mummified rats :-0

I have some in my shed, I use them to put my spuds in I grow on my allotment.I have a roll of the hessian (Jute) for rug making so guess I could make my own sacks if needs be, shame they don't make them now, SO much better than paper or plastic ones!
Some of the working/living farm museums may take them off your hands, I'd stick them on ebay as a job lot personally, someone will have them!.

Uses:

Gardening - put down on area where you want to suppress weeds & cover with soil/gravel etc?

Yard & garden to insulate pipes (if not already done)
As outside back door mat (can be lobbed when grubby)
Car mats for winter - when carting all that water/clambering in with snowy/muddy boots (again, disposable after)
Anti-getting-stuck-on-ice mats (put under wheels of car when trying to get out of slippy patch
'Curtains' for stables facing the wrong way in the coldest winds

wrap them round water buckets in the winter with some straw invetween layers to keep them from freezing so bad.
