Hello, i was never very good with maths and am trying to get my head round coloured foal probabilities.
If my mare is heterozygous and has a 50% chance of having a coloured foal, if she was put to a heterozygous coloured stallion, would that increase the chance to 100%?? Or would it still be 50%?

Also, does anyone know anything about what controls the eveness of markings in coloureds? ie is it the same gene?
thx

If the Stallion is Heterozygous - no.

Probabilities for Foal are:

Homozygous Coloured - 25%
Heterozygous Coloured - 50%
Homozygous non-coloured- 25%

If the stallion is homozygous, then you get 100% coloured

It is believed that there is no gene which determines the pattern of the coat colour - so there is no way of telling whether the foal would be mainly coloured or mainly white etc. It's all pot luck!
