I have been in touch with petplan and they have offered me a policy for my16 year old mare . It offers 5000 vets fees with 100 excess, last policy was 3500 with 500 excess, this can run until she is 25, and only costs three pounds more than my last one with petplan. the secret is to lower the value of the horse , no vet certificate required, personal and public liability , lady on the phone said avoid vetran policy as they dont cover for illness and injury, where as this one does both, and GUESS WHAT they are offering a free horseware jacket when you take out the policy , so anyone that has had the same prob with older horse insurance check it out x

Thanks for posting this have just been to website for quote and I can insure my retired pony for much less than I am currently paying. My current company just hiked price up by 50%.

Thanks for posting this. Its no wonder some people won't look at a pony in its mid teens. If the insurance companies are not keen on insuring them, people believe they will have big vets bills and they are more wary. I have an 18 year superstar schoolmistress jumping pony for sale and I have had only 1 call about her. The vet only sees her once a year for vaccs and teeth and she is probably healthier than most half her age. I will go and visit Petplans site!
